Dental Insurance

We accept most dental insurance plans but would like to remind you that most plans do not cover the entire cost of dental treatment. Here are some facts that you should know about dental insurance:

  • Although dental insurance companies may give you the impression that their plans will cover all of your treatment expenses, many actually cover only 40 to 50 percent. The amount they will pay depends on the plan. Generally, the more expensive the plan, the better the coverage. Don’t forget, dental insurance companies are in the business of making a profit as well as providing benefits.
  • Dental insurers set the amount they pay based on what they call the UCR – usual, customary and reasonable—fee for a particular dental service. Unfortunately, the UCRs are often set low and not adjusted to reflect the increased costs of providing dental services. The average benefit paid out in the 1960s for a dental insurance policy was $1,000; that’s the same average benefit dental insurers pay out today.
  • Various dental insurance policies have different limitations on which services they will pay for and how much they will pay. Some may not even cover important services like preventive care. It’s important for you to read your policy and understand its limits. If you have a question, or if you don’t like the coverage provided, please discuss it with the insurance company and/or your employer.
  • As a service to you, we will be happy to fill out forms and submit claims to help you obtain reimbursement from your insurance company. We can give you an estimate of what your coverage and out-of-pocket payments will be. Whatever balance remains is your responsibility.
